Pursuit of happiness

Now, let me talk and I might sound like your Mom initially, later like the old man’s voice in typical movies. Well, Drop the phones, Look around don’t make yourself lose everything, just to live a dream which is not yours. Wear your traveling shoes pack a bag and go for the trip, or have that perfect coffee, read that book or watch the cheesiest of shows. Do I sound like full-load-crap-typical life changing movie yet?

Pursuing happiness is the worst form of art we practice to miss out on our lives and to unknowingly walk towards a perfect picture we believe exists. One perk though, you might end up being freakishly rich. But when you stand at the exact place in picture of mountains you showed to friend, 10 years back, you would be happy thinking of that exact memory and the friend. As we all know how planned trips go, Life is nothing different.

Now how did I reach here? Well,

Just walking through the half drenched pathways, trying not to fall (only people who know my clumsiness will know), I looked across the field. I realized how often I look at those distant green fields unknowingly. Reminds me of freedom, how strange. Suddenly stumbled upon ‘nothing’, and now I know why I am clumsy. It’s because of living somewhere, well the point is, not so long ago, about last year New year’s, my motto was “Live in the moment” and you know how those things go. Came back to oh-so-tidy room, feeling completely jobless, not going to the Gym because exams are next week, not eating those creamiest of edibleness because of I am not going to the gym, watching those series and when it’s over I feel guilty of wasting my time, eating random food alot of it, still starving and within an hour repeat.

So basically, I was clueless. Looked at my windows which I never opened, since I moved in. Reason, I never had time. Basically 8months back all I wanted was my room, one cup of coffee and a book or binging series. But right now, it’s just a distant happiness I don’t even have time to pursue anymore. We don’t do things we are happy doing. 90% of things that we do, is to get the exact picture of happiness we create ourselves, which we might get in the future. We look at hundreds of things with the eyes filled with happiness, we never realize it. That may be the cute puppies in winter, a window we see everyday and always wondered what’s on the other side, the happiness that we get when we actually have a Goodnight’s sleep, unplanned night out with friends, the one risk we didn’t take, the guy we should have punched, the one we should have hold on to, trips we say no to, talking to the loner sitting across the room but we never bothered, one hour of running so to have guilt-free-carbs. People who we actually should be friends with, Everytime we see those people we know the frequency would hit it off , like the songs of Bruno Mars. The happiness that we get when you overhear the Harry Potter music or “I will be there for you” or the Simple Plan/Green day song, They just make you happy. We are the 90’s kids, the idea of happiness for us can never change. But again, May be that’s just growing up, seriously not giving you any crap about that, we just tend not to trust people, be little selfish just to protect ourselves, think about the future, settle down for things, let the world define our clothes, the air we breathe, our typical jobs, our sleep and worst is our food and body. I just can’t stop thinking about the dialogue in Queen, being the best version of yourself, may be is not being the best one in front of everyone’s eyes and trying to fit in till we die. I mean come on! There’s the exact space for you somewhere why do you need to fit in somewhere you don’t belong. Rather go ahead and ask for leg space! First we occupy someone else’s place, then we say we aren’t happy and settling down, I mean you are unhappy because you want to be that.

Reminded me of the tackiest dialogue I heard, in one of the most typical 90’s Hollywood movies. Never made sense till now “Every person have the exact amount of unhappiness they choose, just to make someone else happy. And to feel a saint about it”

We let people tell us what we are and where we belong, worst is we believe it. We may have hundreds of clothes, but that one-perfect-jeans is all we want. Or may be we want 💯 shoes, because we are giving up everything else and replace it with nice clothes. Healthy way to fill the emptiness 😛 That’s the reason we replace everything around us, just to make sure we aren’t missing out on anything. But we are, missing out on the exact things which we want.

Go listen, Dream dreams noone else can see by Bryan Adams, feel content for 5mins. And carry on with the heavy traffic. Because 90’s are gone. There you go 😛

Disclaimer : Just a twenty-something girl. Rumor has it, mid-twenties are worse than teenage.

Blog Challenge, passing on to Sanskruti Panigrahi, what do you think of Pursuit of Happiness? May the power be with you.

Not all Superheroes wear Capes

The old adage “To be entirely free of impact of law and totally be dominated at the same time, human has to follow the law” convey an perfect ambiguous message. The knee jerk reaction of human is to sail against tide, to fight the realm and the law. Even if laws were created in order to create a safe haven for human, to our dismay it defined a line between right and wrong. And placed some lionhearted shields to protect it and us from destroying peace, so as they call, and name them Soldiers and Police Force.

The courageous acts of the soldiers and police men are beyond our praise or appreciation, may it be the night patrols letting us have warms beds or the sound of the siren echoing in the minds of criminals wandering in dark. The color of khaki brings out our true morals, reminds us law. We defined gentlemen-ship, but the only way to not be one was stopped by the red lights, badges of the soldiers, In their courage there is hope and fear which made us act human. May that be the firm hand of a traffic police stopping the crowd from crossing the red light, or the handcuffs that locked gregarious criminals. Evil is just below the hearts of civilization, these uniforms placate the frenzies beneath us. The badges, guns and the uniform walking with fearless hearts and echos of siren bring shivers before we cross line of law. Yes, we are gentlemen because of the lions in uniforms roaring in the name of the black lady with the balance and sword.

Morals, come from such that they hold authority over our actions, which we as humans are supposed to inherit. But the social and cultural impact define our morals. The rationalization of what should we do, never stopped us from creating chaos.(If it did, i think we would still be walking with four legs :P). No one can deny the pleasure we find in breaking laws to some extent, even though those were created to keep us alive. Obvious examples are wearing helmet and fastening seat belts, peevish laws is it?. Thousands of people would have died if not for us to fear those khakis and uniforms standing with fierce persona. The Corruption, murders, bank robbing, rapes and what not disarrayed behavior were stymied not because of the penal codes, rather cause of lathis and guns in holsters. The fear of them controlled our actions not the thought of doing wrong.Yet some people may defer from the concept, as they believe that reinforcing laws defined crimes which created criminals.

A Summer in the west, Mumbai Diaries

So, being the elder one I always thought my life would be easy. Why? Because I always hated attention (No puns intended) , but it didn’t help. This was the last thought which crossed my mind right after the airport fiasco. I should write a bit about how my parents boarded the flight with me to Bombay, to help me ‘settle’ in the new city but I will leave it to your imagination.  I saw my batch mates dragging huge baggages together and checking out places to hang out in the city while i was having biryani with my Dad. The chaos kept hovering in between my travel-time playlist, suddenly i heard “Good afternoon ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls. This is your captain speaking….Mom asking me to book an Uber…Dad Explaining why we don’t have internet on flights…We are soon going to land in Mumbai (City of dreams I whispered)..” while looking outside the window. The first sight, you expect me to say mesmerizing?! Well, as they say the city never lets you down, it was splendid. And I felt like I can hear the sea from the clouds. You can not see anything but houses yet it has uncountable homeless people. The journey from east to west has just begun, while the waves and smell of sea are the constant.

I would skip the first week, which included a serious hatred phase after the first local, first helpless save-me-already phase after 3 hours of traffic, the ultimate failed mission to search a PG in Vikhroli, Ghatkopar, Powai; a place which is not under a station and doesn’t look shady. Half of them looked like Three Broomsticks Inn (U would understand if you have seen Prisoners of Azkaban). The mess-food holocausted taste buds of mine, rose again with the Mumbai street savories bestowed on them, wada pav and puchka ( I can feel hundreds of  odiyas and bengolis #AlooPuchkaLovers disowning me). Finally the search for an apartment was over, more on the apartment later (Including clashes with guard Mishra ji, late night birthday celebrations, early morning Sunrise on the perfect view of Mumbai Skyline wagera wagera..). Overall, I wasn’t liking the attachment,I felt, which is growing on me in the lonely air of the city, because as a Pune-kar you are programmed to hate Mumbai. (Pune, You beauty!)

In this city, every deserted street corner conceals a crowd. It appears in a minute when something disrupts the way in which the world is supposed to work. It can disappear almost as instantaneously.

But the words were true, which ought not be mentioned as for them to not be jinxed, still I dare say them and think of them every time I dogged my head out of the auto window at 11 and see the whole city running So fast yet in a sync. I could see everything rhymed , the noise of the traffic, the continuous ‘bhav’ calls in the crowd, the juggles of the awe-struck homeless holding their hands out near the unique Rolls-Royce, the palatable smell street food, the awakening of soul, while blackness of the pollution and crowd colluding your life.

You can never feel alone in the crowd, but you can’t stop feeling lonely at the same time. Every time i saw a group of friends (mostly college students like us, as i can see them with their bag packs and carefree laughters. How much i miss being in college with the group, no words can express that). When you sit there after a tiresome day on the road and watch everything under the sky, and see how it all blends in. All the emotions, anger, frustration, nostalgic memories, the slow beats of every song reminding you of the good old days; when you see a little girl near the cotton candy store, the desperation that you feel to start your childhood all over again, Everything – that is Mumbai! I still loved complaining about the college, mess food and welling up with friends at the Jungle ( No, literally it was). Do you see the pattern?

As rightly said, It is all about discovering yourself

“ It’s not so much what you learn about Mumbai, it’s what you learn about yourself, really. It’s a funny old hippie thing, but it’s true as well. You find out a lot about yourself and your tolerance, and about your inclusiveness. “

I  started the countdown the moment my last exam got over “Just 8 weeks, i will be back”. But, just 2 weeks and the city is already growing on me. Now its ” 2 weeks already gone!”. As they say;  You can hate the fact that you still love the city, you can hate Mumbai but you shall fall in love with it. All it takes is Time.

Subsidy or hoax?

Some believe it is only great power that can hold evil in check, but that is not what I have found. It is the small everyday deeds of ordinary folk that keep the darkness at bay. Small acts of kindness and love. Why Bilbo Baggins? Perhaps because I am afraid, and he gives me courage. #lordoftherings #quoting

The hoisted cost prices in market are aided whilst selling them to people is called subsidy, which is loss albeit business can’t persevere with loss but Government can. Hence-fore subsidy is succoring the business to reduce the prices in order to soothe the life of people of the country. Direct and indirect are two kinds in which for example petroleum price control, electricity, food subsidies such as PDS or availing it for free, agricultural subsidies such as fertilizers are direct subsidies and MNREGA , free education, Indira awash yojana, free drinking water availability etc are of indirect subsidy, The immediate benefits overshadows the real face of subsidy. It is instrument of fiscal policy. Straining the fiscal resources by aiding the public and private sectors rather than involvement of FDI and private sector investment curbs the GDP and leads to chronic extension in long-term and vexing the equilibrium of supply=demand chain.

Instantaneous benefits are the availability of service, competition in business as entrepreneurship will increase so the supply will increase, so the prices will fall. Boosting the public interest to hail the name of government. For example, employment of people for minimum 100 days with non-skilled manual work ballooned up number of jobs, but at the same time fomenting sluggishness and least daily wages even if for skilled work which led to inefficient use of skilled human resource. Placating the petrol price helped the public, the rich and mediocre, to persist in the lifestyle though the poor had no perks and still availing shabby public transport. The earmark of subsidies is never reached. Hydroelectric subsidy ushered energy but the farmers corps remained thirsty.Having mentioned that, the major revenue settling up these are tax revenue, monetizing debts, printing money and bad mortgages. When the tax payers emptying pockets subsequently the the demand decreases, production cost increases so does the prices. GDP growth decreases, for example recent declination of 8.5% to 7.7% after declaration of future service tax hike. Debt crisis  occurs for example Greece economic crisis caused due to misplaced subsidies and edifice of capitalization of money. Hitherto printing of money caused the most nefarious sector black money and inflation, as paying more for the same products will only increase the destitution of poor which the opposite of resolution of subsidy hence reliance put in the wrong place. The elucidation of subsidies may not solve the problem but nominating the impartial sectors might resolve it. For example free education, will boost up the skilled resource availability and employment of crowd under BPL, Adhara cards and ration card on the other hand is silver lining, apportioning the needy to avail the subsidized goods attain the true goal. Vitalizing  FDI and private investment in public sectors is another raison detre.

Notwithstanding using subsidies as a tool of political benefit to cultivate vote banks. The primary goal ought to be set to miniaturize poverty, kosher way to target the unprivileged , monetizing the private sectors. Subsidies are necessary but impersonating it as evil reliance on the manipulation deed. Agricultural, educational, production aids should not be curbed. Had the motive been to paralize the diminishing of poverty, subsidy would never be named as evil.

Expectations. .

Doubts kill more dream than failures do..

When someone asks the questions, who are typical MBA aspirants? Quintessential answer would be Engineers working in an IT firm. Crowd being the ascendency, we are insubstantial to think any different. We try to quell the nihilist. Having said that, I am not lofty, I am right in the middle of the crowd (not holding the yellow umbrella ;)), on a venture to be a bignig in shindig, promulgate my career, in the slugfest to add digits on the payslip. But, I want to learn to be in the middle of crowd, gibing through towards shore, waving at frenzy person sailing against the tide to build our own ship. Expectations from a bschool is often quite materialistic. And I am terrified if I will survive, if i do i expect it won’t be remnant, rather it’s be wringing knowledge to lead with potential of business Spartan. I expect to learn to be culpable, to make my mistakes a miracle. I expect to be leader who leads hoisted and billowing Indian business, in culminating India or I might end up with bankruptcy 😉 (after all it took great depression, world wars to create biggest economies in the world). Being an MBA aspirant I expect to enshrine my knowledge, to be the protuberance in crowd who dared to dream big.
